School
for Success. Performing multiple
duties related to the daily bus driver operations as directed.
DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive
on designated route and follow charter schedules.
- Drives
a school bus daily over designated routes in accordance with time schedules
as needed.
- Picking
up or discharging students and driving for special events.
- Loads,
unloads, and secures students.
- Assures
that required safety devices are secure and properly used, e.g. seat belts,
car seats and harnesses.
- Transports
students, parents, and teachers on field trips to various locations making
departure and arrival times as scheduled.
- Inspects
bus prior to operation for safety purposes, cleans windshields and
headlights, cleans interior and exterior of buses as needed, including, but
not limited to, picking up debris, sweeping and mopping floor, and wiping
and cleaning upholstery. Service bus with fuel and oil as needed.
- Maintains
appropriate behavior among students on buses and at bus stops by follows
District policies regarding student control and regarding contact with
parents and the public.
- Reports
problems or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate authority.
- Reports
any incidents affecting the safety of students to the maintenance supervisor
and performs first aid or emergency assistance.
- Files
accident reports with appropriate personnel
- Maintain
log all trips, on bus mileage, gas and oil consumptions and number of
passengers transported.
- Attends
scheduled safety meetings and safety programs.
- Perform
basic servicing such as fuel and oil, inspection and replacement of
accessories, and other activities requiring similar skill and ability level.
- Other
duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position as
needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have a valid
Texas
commercial driver’s license (Class B) and Department of Public Safety
Certification. Drivers must complete
the training and licensure required by the State of
Texas
and Valid CPR, First Aid Certificate. High
School Diploma/GED and minimum of 2 years experience in public/charter school
environment preferred.
LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to communicate effectively with student, parent, administrator and
personnel staff by using tact and discretion, and responding to questions,
comments in a calm professional manner and in writing English/Spanish.
Ability to managing student behavior and knowledge of student discipline
procedure or other related.
OTHER
SKILL & PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
This position requires: Arm-hand and leg-foot dexterity to drive a bus.
Visual acuity including depth perception and the ability to sit for
prolonged periods, hearing sufficient to be aware of traffic and road
distractions/conditions and listen to passengers, the ability to lift passenger
ambulatory aids such as wheelchairs on to platforms, the ability to assist
special needs students/wheelchair users and to lift/carry 50 lb.
